Schweinfurt municipal wastewater treatment plant

A pioneering eco laboratory becomes part of an innovative process water treatment system

In addition to the usual wastewater treatment plant operations, the Schweinfurt municipal wastewater treatment plant is developing solutions to counter possible water shortages. The newly designed plant, including a modern environmental laboratory, offers the best conditions for the corresponding research project in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich.  In order to treat waste water for reuse, monitored filter and purification processes are needed to ensure that the water quality is safe. High-quality analysers ensure the quality of the results. The well-designed building – planned and realised by the engineering office Miller in Nuremberg – with an area of 465 square metres provides sufficient space for this. For the tender for the laboratory equipment, the engineering office contacted our partner TH. GEYER, who was able to convince them with an optimal price-performance ratio for a Köttermann laboratory equipment made of durable steel.

The customised furnishing elements consisting of workstations, media cells and fume cupboards were designed to be open and harmonious. Together with the glass inserts in the media cells, this made it possible to emphasise the brightness of the rooms and enable open, collaborative working. Bespoke work surface areas provide sufficient space for samples, analysers and measuring equipment. Switching between office and laboratory work is barrier-free to facilitate workflows. Practical storage space was created on the wall side with high laboratory cabinets and cabinets for hazardous substances. A number of stumbling blocks were overcome during the project phase with a team working hand in hand. Sandra Niehaves, Head of Operative Sales and Laboratory Furniture DACH at TH. GEYER remembers: ‘This project presented us with special challenges that we were able to solve successfully. The great teamwork of everyone involved was the decisive success factor and created a close customer relationship. It’s not often that we get to use an office at our customers’ premises. The happy faces at the inauguration – from employees to the mayor of Schweinfurt – were the most important result for us.’

Technical University of Munich – Straubing Campus

Flexible solutions for special requirements

A comprehensively equipped laboratory in modular construction was realised in 2022 for the Technical University of Munich in Straubing. Today, on an area of approximately 1,500 sqm, customised furnishing components ensure optimal study conditions at the Straubing campus – an integrative research centre for biotechnology and sustainability. TUM has been a loyal Köttermann customer for around a decade. Existing laboratory facilities from us are continuously supplemented with new elements. The people in charge appreciate the fact that extraordinary wishes can be implemented in individual solutions. The selection criteria for laboratory equipment from Köttermann are always the durable material steel and the company’s sustainability strategy.

Commercial and Domestic School Horb

Unique furnishing solution for innovative teaching.

In Horb on the Neckar, an unusual school laboratory facility has been created: A visionary teacher wanted a cooperative learning environment that would put her as a teacher at eye level with the students. The request for a teacher’s lab table in the middle of the room could be realised thanks to the octagonal corner solutions of the student workstations. The pupils can also communicate with each other almost without obstacles thanks to the transparent service cell glass inserts. The service columns are produced in a filigree design especially for this purpose – made possible by the basic material of the Köttermann laboratory equipment, steel. The digital way of working in the lessons required practical storage devices for the tablets. The simple holders leave enough space for experimenting and allow ergonomic working. Here, too, steel offers the advantage of an extremely thin product design and easy cleaning during use.

Papierfabrik Palm in Aalen

Laboratory equipment as part of a large-scale project

The Palm paper mill in Aalen wanted a customised laboratory furnishing solution. The company, located east of Stuttgart, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of newsprint and corrugated base paper made from recovered paper. As part of a large future-oriented new plant construction and infrastructure project, a new paper mill was built at the headquarters at a cost of about half a billion euros. A new paper machine for the production of corrugated base papers, which are used for sustainable packaging, formed the centrepiece of the project. A new laboratory measuring 130 square metres was built in the new corrugated board factory for this purpose. One of the existing laboratories was already equipped with Köttermann equipment. The resilience due to intensive use in the sewage treatment plant sector was the decisive reason for Palm to enquire again.
